Duration: Casual Part-Time Seasonal

Rate of pay: $16.55-$17.95 per hour

Hours: Monday-Friday – 8:00am-9:00am AND 3:00pm-4:00pm – SCHOOL DAYS ONLY

Description of position: The crossing guard will escort children at designated school crossing locations during the school year in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Municipality of Southwest Middlesex guidelines.

We are looking to establish a pool of eligible applicants that are able to work either on a regular basis, or on an on-call basis.

Qualifications, experience and education:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Keen alertness to surroundings and an ability to follow directions and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of mental concentration, with visual and hearing ability to recognize traffic at a safe distance (approx.300 feet).
  • Ability to display school crossing stop sign (weighing approximately two pounds) in an upright position visible to vehicular traffic approaching from all directions while extending the other arm parallel for one minute on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to perform above-noted activities in diverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Vulnerable Sector Check: All crossing guards must provide a clear vulnerable sector check before any interaction with children.

COVID-19 vaccination requirement: In accordance with the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex’s Vaccination Policy, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment, subject to accommodations required in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.
