Notice to Residents: Water Taste and Odour
The Municipality is aware that some residents have noticed an earthy or musty taste and smell in their drinking water.
The Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) has advised that this is caused by naturally occurring organic compounds, specifically geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol. While the taste and odour can be unpleasant, these compounds are not harmful at the levels found in drinking water.
OCWA has already started an oxidation process to reduce the compounds and is closely monitoring water quality. In addition, flushing of storage tanks and parts of the distribution system is taking place, along with extra water sampling, to ensure your water remains safe to drink.
