Safe Community Project Zero News Release

Posted date

The Municipality of Southwest Middlesex and the Southwest Middlesex Fire Department are proud to partner with Enbridge Gas Ontario and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council through the Safe Community Project Zero program. This initiative helps reduce fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths by providing free combination smoke and CO alarms to local residents.

As part of this effort, 114 alarms were donated to the Southwest Middlesex on November 12, 2025. The program also supports awareness of new Ontario Fire Code requirements — beginning January 1, 2026, carbon monoxide alarms will be mandatory on every storey of homes with a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage.
