Solid Waste Services
In Southwest
Middlesex we have a "Pay As You Throw"
system for garbage going to the landfill. As part of this system
property owners/tenants are required to purchase bag tags to attach to all
household garbage bags placed at the roadside for collection. Bag tags
which are currently sold at $1.50 each are also required for any household
garbage going into the landfill sites.
All landfill waste is to be placed in translucent plastic bags
and will be accepted at either landfill site. Waste in dark, black or
green bags will not be collected. Recyclables of
course do not require a bag tag.
To the right you will find a link to a detailed guide about garbage and
recyclables. Please keep your guide handy as it contains very
important information on how to sort and contain your garbage and
recyclables. Our waste collectors, Blue Water Recycling, encourage
you to contact them directly with any questions or concerns. Please
call their Recycling Hotline at 1-800-265-9799 or visit
www.bra.org.
Tipping fees at the landfill are available here on the municipal web
site or call 519-287-2015 for the current rates and regulations. For items too large for roadside collection, call 519-287-2015 for a list of private contractors who may collect and
transport such items to a landfill site at the requester’s expense.
The objective in providing solid waste services
is to protect the health, safety and natural environment of our citizens
through fiscally responsible, efficient and effective practices that
encourage waste reduction, diversion and recycling, and that promote
economic prosperity by ensuring a clean, healthy and attractive
municipality.
Owners or tenants in properties unable to comply with the program
requirements will be responsible for arranging for the disposal of their
waste.
